Things have been non-stop here! Yesterday we got all 127 students here with only one lost bag. You could see the excitement, but also the jetlag, on everyone’s faces. The students met their RAs that will be looking after their safety and happiness for the summer, and the groups all started to bond.
Today we played lots of icebreakers and team-building activities, as well as went on a campus tour to see some of the main sites of Berkeley. The campus is beautiful and we are lucky to spend the summer here. Later, everyone went to their first class and met one of their teachers they will have this summer. Classes were a great success, but students can change classes through Thursday if need be, and workshops through Friday. It’s really special to see all the friendships forming, and in four short weeks they will be very attached to their Summerfuel friends. But we have plenty to do before then! Plenty more updates to come soon! Greetings from California!
It’s 11pm EST and all of the Summerfuel UMass Amherst students have arrived safely for Session 1. Day 1 of Student Orientation begins with Breakfast in the morning followed by a campus tour, the opening Welcome Session and an orientation to their AM class. Here’s a look back at some of our arrivals on Sunday…
It’s warm, sunny and gorgeous blue skies here in Amherst, Massachusetts as we await the arrival of the Summerfuel UMass students! Staff are stationed at Logan Airport in Boston throughout the day to greet student arrivals and assist them with getting on our shuttles to campus. For those who are driving to campus, you can pull right up to the front of our building to check-in and unload your student’s belongings. It’s North A at 56 Eastman Lane, Amherst, MA, 01003 as seen in this photo.
Hello Summerfuel friends and family!
Our students are all arriving here at Berkeley and we could not be more excited to finally meet them. We have had a great week with the staff, getting everything prepared for the students, and we know this summer will be another smashing success. We have 13 thoughtful RAs and 5 Senior Staff members to take care of our 128 students for the four weeks they are here with us.
We are staying in the Foothill dorms on the Berkeley campus, and we are so lucky to have such amazing views of the bay and San Francisco across the bay. We have already sampled the dining hall food and it is so delicious and the weather has been beautiful as well.
If you need to contact us, our Summerfuel office phone number is +1 (646) 468-7462. This office will be open from 8:30am-11:oopm daily, California time. Our students can also receive mail here this summer, if sent to:
Foothill Residence Halls
2700 Hearst Ave.
Berkeley, CA 94720-2292 USA
We can’t wait for it all to begin tomorrow! We know this will be the summer of their lives!
Best wishes from your Senior Staff team,
Willem, Alicia, Danny, Dave, and Shaleena
Summerfuelers had a busy two days of exploring three college campuses! On Thursday, we headed to Fordham University and Sarah Lawrence. This Friday, we took an official tour of Columbia University! Our students took a tour of Fordham’s Rosehill campus located in the north Bronx, New York, and learned more about Fordham College at Rose Hill and the Gabelli School of Business. Fordham prides itself on providing students with top-notch education, as well as opportunities to develop themselves as leaders.
After taking a closer look at Fordham University, we hopped back on the bus and refueled for our next visit to Sarah Lawrence College! Students experienced a different campus and asked great questions about classes and student life. Sarah Lawrence is a small private liberal arts college located in Bronxville, New York. Summerfuelers learned that at Sarah Lawrence, students receive a rigorous education while creating a personalized course of study. With a unique suburban campus, Sarah Lawrence College is located just 30 minutes away from New York City.
Students attended an info session to learn more about Columbia University’s undergraduate experience followed by an official tour of the campus!
